Fruit Basket I & II are two dynamic and expressive works born from a desire to further explore a drawing-based approach—this time primarily using the brush. After several recent “excursions” into drawing, I felt compelled to deepen this path. I began both pieces simultaneously, allowing the process to determine whether they would become a diptych or remain individual works.
The result is a pair of vibrant, powerful, and raw compositions. A strong gestural framework in black forms the foundation, upon which all other elements build. Lines and graphic gestures indicate fruits without aiming for literal depiction. The composition seems to dance across the surface—full of movement and spontaneity.
Ivory and pale pink tones introduce accents, create contrast with the black, and tie everything together with the warm creamy undertone of the canvas.
Do you see a fruit basket? Perhaps not at first glance—but that’s precisely the charm. These works invite conversation, interpretation, and imagination. I’m incredibly happy with the result!
