This drawing was inspired by a visit to one of my favorite local hiking destinations, Horse Rock Ridge, and how the late afternoon sun casted long shadows from the fir trees against the grassy, undulating hillside. In my work I use drawing as a means of memorializing moments, usually in nature, that have touched my spirit. The medium allows me to transcend simply documenting the experience and the drawing becomes a journey in its own right, where the final outcome is not fully known. I often include animals that, like in a traditional portrait, hold the gaze of the viewer, and intuitively evoke our common consciousness.
