Harry Hummerston uses bold and graphic images, building them up with a variety of materials. The images and materials play off each other and evoke responses that are both contradictory and paradoxical. In this work, cranes and machinery are juxtaposed against the ‘bird of paradise’ flower. Hummerston challenges the viewer’s customary understanding of everyday experience.
