Return Game uses art-related themes of site-specificity, sculpture, and documentation to elevate the everyday squash court into a place of aesthetic and material value.
Though the suburban squash court is a zone of competition that takes physical exertion to the limits, it is also an elegant and refined space in its design. For those who play, the court is all-encompassing and invites its players into a minimalist game. Moving back and forth, players understand the space through their physicality, noticing line, colour, symmetry, balance, light, sound, and surface. Playing squash can be brutal but worth it. Between the points, extraordinary moments of stillness, precision, and beauty can be found.
Return Game forms part of a greater artistic project that invites the audience to consider their own subjectivity in relation to everyday locations and move towards a more critical and sensory experience of place.
