Hand sewn using felt, silk, velvet, and cotton fabrics; Russian punchneedle embroidery. Inspired by the holy icon, The Trinity (1411 or 1425–27) by Andrei Rublev. The artist notes, "The hope and goal of creating an icon in fabric is to create an experience of a personal and living interaction with these three Divine persons. The beauty of fabric is its flexibility, its texture and its ability to “play” with the light. Unfortunately, these characteristics also present their own difficulties, and at times horror, of using this medium. The greatest challenge of creating this particular icon was determining a way to portray the ethereal nature of the Father and the Holy Spirit. While the task seemed ridiculous at times, its completion was miraculous."
