The text beneath the image reads, "Al Molto Rev.(do) Signore Giuseppe Petrini, curato di San Pietro Ovile," indicating that the image was a gift for the Very Rev. Petrini, curate of this church which is located in Siena, Italy. Based on archival records, Petrini was curate of this church in 1840. The name on the engraver, V. Stanghi, located on the right below the image confirms as he was a well-known engraver active in Siena between 1820-1840. The drawing is based on an earlier work by the artist/engraver, "Visconti." The signature in the lower right suggests that Vincenzo Batelli, a well-known publisher of this time period in nearby Florence, gave the engraving as a gift to Rev. Petrini, as suggested by the "D.D.D." lettering after his name, "Dono Dedit Dedicavit," which translates to "gave and dedicated as a gift" or "gave, dedicated, consecrated as a gift."
