This RKO Production by Victor Flemming with Ingrid Bergman is based on the successful Broadway play by Maxwell Anderson, "Joan of Lorraine," which also starred Bergman. It was adapted for the screen by Anderson himself, in collaboration with Andrew Solt. Unlike the play, which shows how the story of Joan affects a group of actors who are performing it, the film is a straightforward recounting of the life of this saint.
