From Die Sammlung Alt-Nieder-und-Ober-Deutscher Gemälde der Brüder und Melchior Boisseree und Johann Bertram, a collection of 114 copper plate engravings made from the art collection of the Boisseree Brothers and John Bertram. This engraving is after the central panel of the Ghent Altar Triptych.
While some argue the figure is God the Father, in the original context of the Ghent Altar piece the seated figure is flanked by the Virgin Mary and John the Evangelist, echoing the crucifiction scene described in the Gospel of John 19: 25-26. Furthermore, this figure wears the papal tripple tiara, suggesting his role as head of the church.
