Winter Sun Storm, Honey Harbour Painted from a reference photo taken while skiing at Honey Harbour on Georgian Bay, this canvas holds two things at once — the bite of a winter storm and the bright winter sun breaking through it, the way light and weather collide on the coldest, clearest days. Chris worked it up later in the studio back home, translating that specific afternoon into paint. Oil on canvas, 2008.

About This Collection

Chris James Cooper brought a rare combination to his landscape paintings — training as an ecologist and an architect, paired with a lifelong love of paint and light. His work was shown in several Ontario galleries during his lifetime, and reflects decades spent observing the natural world closely, both scientifically and artistically.
