The Grain in The Stone by Chris James Cooper, Image 1.
Near Georgian Bay, Chris kept returning to one recurring image: the windswept pine, shaped by decades of wind off the water, its twisted form echoing the grain and striations of the granite beneath it. As he put it himself: “Forms echoing one another near Georgian Bay.” This canvas is one of the fullest expressions of that signature subject — the visual rhythm between rock and tree that runs through so much of his Georgian Bay work, brought together here at full scale.
