Storm Clouds by Chris James Cooper, Image 1.
The sky is everything here — great sweeping arcs of storm cloud moving in slow rotation above a dark Georgian Bay shoreline, a luminous gap opening at the centre like an eye. Chris gives the weather almost the entire canvas, the forested islands reduced to a thin dark line at the horizon, the water barely visible below. Painted in 2008, the same year as Storm Front and Winter Sun Storm — a year he seemed drawn repeatedly to the sky at its most dramatic.
