At the 2017 Plein Air in Easton, MD we were challenged to 'Imagine Two Futures' with a hefty sum of cash attached. The donor didn't like solar panels and wanted to show how they despoiled the landscape. This posed a problem, because I like solar energy, seeing it as a decent 'bridge' technology until we figure out how to produce energy from the last century's worth of plastic trash. I didn't win; I think I made solar panels look too romantic. Every time I look at this, I'm imaging an alternate future - the prize money was nothing to sneeze at.
