This semi-abstract piece in plum, black and mint green marked what was to be the end of phase 1 of the series of vector art made from pandemic sketches (I returned to them in 2025 starting work on sketches 11-20). It gave me huge pleasure to make it and to look back at what I had learned about art and discovered about myself in the process of making this series. From the start, I knew that the plant would take centre stage but as it grew and as I grew, we both changed. From the simple, flat vector art of the start of the series through the textures and playful perspectives of some later pieces to this - a return to the simple, central image of the plant but with greater confidence and gravity. The piece, with its more fluid and hesitant outline than the early works, speaks to me of the fragility and uncertainty of life and the creative urge that can be a refuge and a salvation.
