Third piece from a reflective series of abstract pictures in large scale on bold modern pastels. The story behind the art is one of finding beauty and new life in apparent decay and dissolution. The Crassula 'Jade' plant leaves that feature in this series became filled with meaning for me when the original plant died. In Chinese culture and more widely the plant is a harbinger of good fortune and this felt like a blow. Later the message to me was one of the extraordinary power for survival and the pattern of life that exists in nature. The almost identical dropped leaves from a later, happily a thriving, plant fascinated me. They became talismans of transitions and transformations with a core of unchanging life.
