In 2025 I revisited my early vector work from 2019‑2023—a distinct phase in my artistic journey—and curated a handful of pieces that mark key moments in my evolution. “Flight Dance” holds particular resonance.
In the summer of 2021 I unintentionally over‑watered a Jade Tree, causing root rot; by September the plant collapsed. The tree, traditionally a symbol of good fortune, mirrored the low points I was experiencing at the time.
While I was too low to even clear away the plant’s remnants, the scattered dead leaves eventually caught the light like ancient metallic fragments—tactile, luminous, and oddly beautiful. I photographed them, then vectorized, multiplied, and re‑aligned the images until a harmonious circular composition emerged.
The resulting abstract forms suggest a bird, a whirling dance, or a being poised for flight. The deep red hue recalls my time in China, where red symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. What began as a moment of decay and chaos in 2019 transformed into an enigmatic, uplifting image—perhaps a visual omen of renewal born from collapse.
