This painting was inspired by a photo taken by Marcia Resnic in 1980. She's known for her portraits of the NY art and music scene in the 70's and 80's. The photo is of Freddy Brathwaite, a prominent figure in the history of hip-hop and visual artist known for his work in Graffiti, film and television. I loved his glasses and his hat!
