At first, I didn’t intend for the painting to be about pain and meant for it to be about possession and cells growing outside the body but I found a different meaning in it as I finished it. Now it represents how when someone is so in love and obsessed with the idea of someone else, they can turn into an entirely different and new person. I wanted to portray a type of painful transformation as the person is losing more and more of themselves as the ‘love disease’ takes over their body and transforms them into an entity that is capable of much pain and chaos, harming their loved ones and those around them. The main body is being stripped of itself so that the new entity can be created and sustained. The blood seeping out shows how the main body is struggling to hold onto itself and how the new body is tearing away from the main body as quickly as it can. If the disease succeeds in detaching itself from the main body then that body dies and the newly formed cell entity continues the cycle trying to infect others and steal their bodies to grow bigger. I added blood as my final touch to make the suffering that the person is experiencing more visible and intense.
