I decided to revisit realism in art which I haven't done since I was in 9th grade. I had a vision of the woman I painted here and when it comes to the meaning of the painting and title, I tried to represent a deeply religious woman feeling regret for having spent her whole life. Her actual age isn't represented in this painting, just the age which she felt connected to the most. She had been condemning people and inflicting violence on those whom she loved in the name of her church. She realizes that instead of having harshly judged them, she could have been more understanding and altruistic in her approach. If she had, she could have kept them in her life for longer. Behind her are hands coming down from space, a rosary dangling from their fingers. An all-knowing eye stares forward ahead as to lead the woman towards her next life. The woman having learned a valuable lesson is given another chance to experience life. The hope is that in her next life, she’ll live without feeling as much regret and guilt as her past life and value her loved ones’ feelings before certain religious teachings.
