This piece was commissioned by UCSF Bayfront Medical Building in San Francisco for their main lobby. As a daily exercise, I created 365 unique colors, each representing a single day within the span of one year. The full spectrum references a progression generally associated with the changing seasons, so that blue, green, and purple tones align with the cooler months, while yellow, red, and orange tones refer to the warmer seasons. The passage of time naturally shifts the color nuances. Responding to color’s ability to prompt a mood, thought, feeling, or memory, I attributed a set of words to characterize each tint. These words are simply my personal associations, yet they can also be read together as a long, ongoing “poem” that cycles through time.
