Friends of mine actively support the Poor People's Campaign. This friend, Patti Ross, is also holds a certificate in Writing for Social Justice from the University of California, Berkeley. Her concern for the poor finds its way into some of her poetry and the line "There's a Misdirected Fight," that is used in this painting is from one of her poems. When she reads poetry her expressions capture her emotions which made my decision to paint her tricky. First I was trying to decide which emotion to use, then I decided to capture several to clarify the cause to Fight Poverty, not the Poor.
