Soup plate, 9.625 inches diameter. Brown transfer with polychrome clobbering Printed maker's mark for Gildea & Walker. The Rd. No. dates the registration of this pattern to 1884. This delicate pattern features a central medallion composed of wildflowers and foliage. The same motif appears around the rim as a wide border with the addition of small butterflies.
In 1878 James Gildea joined the partnership of Bates & Walker. In 1881 Bates left the partnership and Gildea & Walker continued together. In 1885 James Gildea continued the business alone.
