Pitcher, 5.25 inches tall. Blue transfer. Printed maker's mark belonging to Dunn, Bennett & Co. This floral pattern features an all-over sheet of leafy branches with groups of flowers and buds. The wide border running around the rim of the picture consists of three different panels in sets of two. The first panel features apple blossoms over lattice-work with a truncated flower mon in the bottom corner. The second panel features peonies over a spiral pattern, again with a truncated flower mon in the upper corner. The third panel features lilies over a wavy-line motif with a flower mon in the upper corner.
Dunn, Bennet & Co. was a manufacturer of earthenware and ironstone at a number of sites, originally in Hanley and then, from 1886, in Burslem, Staffordshire. Established in 1876 by William Dunn and his son-in-law William Wood-Bennett. Dunn, Bennett & Co manufactured earthenware and ironstone for both the home and American markets. Around 1908 it was incorporated as a limited company.
