This painting started from a photo I took while at RUF summer conference in Panama City, Florida. As I was getting ready to go to the pool I walked by this big blue pot of roses and I fell in love with the colors that were all around me. I started the painting with a panel of plywood I found that was already gessoed. I had never painted on plywood so I wanted to give it a try. I then sketched the scene out with my red checking pencil then went in and started my color notes. I organized my lights and shadows and overcolored the notes so I would not lose the effect of sunlight that was on the flower pot, flowers, white concrete, and the wooden planks.
