This painting was one of the first two paintings I did when learned how to loosen up from my tight and repetitive brushwork. This painting started with a toned linen panel and I took burnt sienna and ulramarine blue and alot of gamsol and did an underpainting. Once I got my underpainting down, I went in with a cottonswab and gamsol and lightened up the values that were lighter so it would be easy to color in with paint. After my underpainting was dry I went in with the color. For this painting my aunt wanted me to put on the color and leave it there. There was to be no blending or taking away, once it was there it would stay there. Doing this helped me loosen up my brushwork but also helped me to think more about what colors to put down.
