This is copy of an illuminated M from Lincoln Cathedral MS135, re-created using medieval techniques. The gold is 24 carat, raised on manuscript gesso made to a traditional recipe and burnished to a high shine. The pigments used are those which would have been available at the time the manuscript was written - lapis lazuli from Afghanistan, vermillion from Spain and two ochres - one collected here in Lincolnshire and another from the Forest of Dean in the UK. This piece is mounted but not framed.
