I painted this bridge in Stowe Vermont as a small 8" x 6" study a while back, knowing I wanted to tackle it as a larger piece later. This is the larger painting. It hews closely to the study with some small compositional changes, most notably to the birch tree on the right, and I also changed the lighting in the piece. The Gold Brook Bridge is locally known as Emily's bridge as legend has it a love-lorn woman by the name of Emily met her demise on this bridge a long time ago. It is a popular spot with tourists to Stowe, being close to town and easily accessible. The best view of the bridge is this angle from down below the bridge looking upwards and upstream.
