Artist notes: My focus is on the abstract shapes and the tension between these and the substance, immediacy and colours of my subject. I am holding a space for whole body sensory expression where visual references are given less weight but not none in this “landscape of the small” plein air study. The painting distills the tactile complexity of a small natural landscape fragment, drawing attention to the interplay between abstract shapes form, colour, and surface.
