Sunrise and sunset offer the most fleeting of light effects, but also some of the most beautiful. Often when looking for paintings, I wait for that "aha" moment and then quickly clarify that idea into a composition. In this scene, I was particularly interested in the atmospheric background beyond the buildings, the glows of warm lilac in the distance and the understated beauty of rural life, where every morning brings a renewed sense of peace.
