"Refuge Dream” is one creation in my expansive project that emerged from my personal journey in aging. “Portrait of a Woman” began in 2016 as I continue creating pieces.
This piece is offered on bar hung canvas. It themes are part of the larger project as well as ideas about dreaming and finding refuge. There is a pull between the sky facing person and the earthly trees.
As the largest undertaking in my art career it is an extensive venture encompassing artworks in multiple media. The origin of the project grew from my personal journey in aging, using my own face. Pieces incorporate my face with natural elements. After six years now the pieces in this collection include canvas, metal and paper prints as well as a few small experimentations.
The “Portrait of a Woman” series, is produced digitally with iPhone and iPad. Unflinchingly, I capture my face as well as surrounding elements - trees, water, plants and structures. I turn my iPhone toward myself, as aging woman blending my image with the natural environment. I explore a myriad of approaches melding the captured world with my own image coupling my likeness with titles, poetry, quotes, personal stories and beliefs. Each fused image builds new meanings transforming to offer a greater message.
