Bronze Portrait of U.S. House Speaker Longworth

Nicholas Longworth (Nov. 5, 1869 – April 9, 1931) was born in Cincinnati. He was elected to the Cincinnati Board of Education in 1898 and later served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1899 and 1900 before moving to the Ohio Senate from 1901 to 1903. He then was elected to the U.S. Congress and served from 1903 to 1913. He was an unsuccessful candidate for re-election in 1912, but was successful in 1914 and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1915 until his death in 1931.
