- Anna Leigh Moore
This Art Piano was decorated by artist Anna Leigh Moore. After six years of living in Utah, she has found her muse for life. The goal of her work is to connect the viewer to the untamed places that leave her in awe. Clearing away the minutia, to focus on the jagged line where the earth and sky meet. Her paintings are a reminder to keep your eyes up—to the impossibly blue sky, and to the peaks that call us to venture higher than before.
Here she has painted a Schilling & Sons Cabinet Grand piano, her design highlights the action of zooming in on the wildlife that surrounds us to focus on the beauty in our community. Like a musical orchestra, these plants harmonize our fragile high desert and alpine ecosystem. The piano’s Trailside location is integral to the design, encouraging community members to notice the biodiversity in their backyard.
Just as the Art Pianos for All project makes art and music accessible to everyone, Anna’s design celebrates our incredible access to this unique ecosystem. Her design features a variety of flowers and plants native to the Utah area including sego lily, wasatch penstemon, avalanche lily, balsamroot, wild mint, globemallow, indian paintbrush, prickly pear, sage, rabbitbrush, sunflower, lupine and fireweed.
Art Pianos for All, founded by local photographer and artist Mark Mazierz, seeks to bring back the piano as a centerpiece of music, community, art, and fun by placing artist decorated pianos in public areas for all to play. An annual pop-up concert series utilizing the pianos began in 2019 and features professional Utah orchestra members playing the pianos on site.
