Exhibition Proposal: Ancient Echoes: Stone Spheres by Stephanie Fuller
Concept and Inspiration:
Ancient Echoes explores the timeless connections between humanity and the natural world, presenting stone spheres as powerful symbols of resilience, protection, and shelter. Inspired by Neolithic art and the sacred role of stones in early human civilisations, each sculpture is meticulously assembled from materials with deep-rooted histories—stones such as chert, basalt, jasper, and occasional accents like lapis lazuli or agate. The forms echo ancient symbols of feminine strength and earthbound stability, offering a modern reflection on our ancestral ties to the earth’s enduring forces.
In both large and small scales, these stone spheres allow viewers to experience a grounded yet transcendent connection with natural materials. Each sphere also embodies a dedication to ecological mindfulness, emphasising sustainable materials and practices. As the stones are carefully gathered, chosen, and placed by hand, each sphere is unique, capturing the organic shapes and colours as they are found, rather than artificially manipulated.
Practical Considerations:
As an artist experienced with both public and gallery installations, I am fully prepared to meet the logistical and practical requirements of a large-scale exhibition. ATM my stone spheres can be exhibited both indoors. For smaller spaces, intimate spheres in various sizes can be displayed on pedestals, while larger, commissionable pieces offer curators an opportunity to explore immersive arrangements. Each sphere will be built to be structurally sound, employing techniques that ensure stability and durability.
With experience handling complex installations, I’m equipped to manage the logistical aspects, from transport and handling to exhibition setup, ensuring an efficient process for gallery staff. As demand grows for sustainable and meaningful art experiences, Ancient Echoes invites curators to bring this elemental journey to audiences, offering a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the spiritual, ecological, and historical dimensions of art through the raw beauty of stone.
