Crystal Vein Relic
Veined white-and-grey quartzite base, mixed river pebbles (including red jasper, ochre flint, cream chert, grey basalt, occasional specks of lapis), gold-gilded focal stone, resin
19 × 13 × 10 cm
A delicately balanced ring of river-smoothed stones rises from a pale veined quartzite base, recalling the crystalline seams found in cliff faces and ancient riverbeds. The central gold-gilded stone glows as if lit from within, emphasising the relic-like quality of the sculpture.
Stone Map:
• Veined white-and-grey quartzite base — grounding, permanence and connection to the earth’s geological history
• Pebbles of red jasper, ochre flint, cream chert and grey basalt — shaped and coloured by the action of water over time, representing diversity and endurance
• Small accent of lapis lazuli — a flicker of deep blue evoking water and the heavens
• Gilded central stone — focal point of light and preciousness, echoing seams of gold in rock
