Have you filled a bucket today?
- Acrylic on canvas
- Silvae Group
This painting represents a year of work undertaken by the children in Silvae group. It was a collaborative piece which all members of the class contributed to after exploring the concept of being a bucket filler. Inspired by the book "Have you filled your bucket today?" The children were encouraged to think about the choices they made and reflected on the impact that positive choices showing kindness, appreciation and love can have. Bucket filling and bucket dipping are effective metaphors for understanding the effects of our action and words on the wellbeing of others and ourselves.
Charlotte: "If everyone was bucket fillers then everyone in the world would be happy."
Barney: "The world's people would be friends because everyone would try to love each other. That's important, to try to love each other, because if we all try to be friends first, then we would all be better people.
Jacques: "The whole world might work as a team if we were filling up buckets. That's what happens in Silvae when we are bucket fillers. Teamwork is important because it helps everybody.
The children met with Mr Gipson to ask if this painting could be placed in The Gipson Commons so that every member of the school community would be encouraged to be a bucket filler, rather than a bucket dipper.
We hope that as you look into this piece of art, you think about what you have done today to fill up someone's bucket.
