“This nature print was created by inking and printing plants and real butterfly wings onto a heavy printmaking, which had been stained to give the illusion of an aged botanical print. The plants used are common to South Dakota and include columbine, pasque, dandelion, violet, and bleeding heart. The butterflies were printed from a monarch and a swallowtail. After printing with a warm black ink, I used an acrylic wash to add color to the piece. Additional work is done using colored pencils.”
