Badlands Milky Way by Randy Halverson Image: “This was taken in August in Badlands National Park during a new moon. The long exposure allows us to see the Milky Way much better than with the naked eye. The shutter was open for 20 to 30 seconds, allowing the camera sensor to gather more light than the eye can see, which makes the stars appear brighter. The formations are illuminated by the starlight. The photograph is a frame from a time-lapse shot with a DSLR Canon 5D Mark III with a Zeiss 25mm lens.”
