This stunning, richly layered lotus blossom is of the variety called birthday peach. The name is due to its similarity when it is at its bud stage to a Chinese bao or steamed bun of that name. These steamed buns are a traditional part of birthday celebrations along with wishes for longevity. These enchanting blossoms were difficult to photograph due to their position in the pond. I loved the way the light danced upon the greenery in the pond and felt that a more impressionistic interpretation was in order.
