"Riverbowl II" is part of Serena Kovalosky's "RIVERS" series of work that explores the element of water and the symbolism of rivers in particular. Riverbowls always include elements of earth, which are needed to "hold" the water in place so it can flow without dissipating. The woodburned currents are loose depictions of the movement of water and the gilded exterior design explores the reflections of the sun on the moving water.
This piece is created from a heirloom-quality gourd. The exterior designs are woodburned onto the surface and enhanced with brass alloy gilding. The interior is gilded with brass alloy leaf. The interior and exterior are protected with an oil varnish finish.
The brass leaf is an alloy that will age over many years. This effect is intentional to reflect the natural cycles of nature.
A Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist accompanies the piece at time of purchase.
