"Rooster II - Barred Rock" is part of a series that pays homage to roosters. Although farms generally keep only one or two roosters among the hens, they have a strong symbolism in many cultures including wealth and good luck. They embody confidence and strength and are fierce protectors of their flock. Their crowing at dawn heralds each new day with the promise of new opportunities.
This piece incorporates feathers from Barred Rock roosters from a local farm near the artist's studio. This breed of rooster is "quieter" than other breeds and are generally friendlier towards their caretakers.
The top of the sculpture is gilded with brass leaf and sealed with an oil-based varnish. Brass is an alloy that will age over many years. This effect is intentional to reflect the natural cycles of nature.
A Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist accompanies the piece at time of purchase.
