"Rooster II - Barred Rock" pays homage to the rooster.
Although farms generally keep only one or two roosters among the hens, they have a strong symbolism in many cultures including wealth and good luck. They embody confidence and strength and are fierce protectors of their flock. Their crowing at dawn heralds each new day with the promise of new opportunities.
The Barred Rock breed of rooster is "quieter" than other breeds and are generally friendlier towards their caretakers. This piece incorporates feathers from Barred Rock roosters from a local farm near the artist's studio.
