This piece began without a fixed image—built from loose charcoal movement, water, and successive layers of acrylic and pastel. Through a process of layering and erasure, a form emerged: a jellyfish rising through what reads as an underwater cave.

The vertical composition draws the eye upward, while darker, textured edges suggest the weight and enclosure of depth. In contrast, the central passage remains open and luminous, allowing the form to appear as if it is passing through or being revealed.

Using a restrained palette—burnt umber, Mars black, titanium white, and blue—and unconventional tools including netting, steel implements, and direct hand application, the surface holds both control and chance. The image is not constructed as much as uncovered, existing between natural systems and the act of making.
