Created at Cortijo El Moro, Andalucia, Spain
Created during a residency in southern Spain, Solitude at Sea reflects a sustained engagement with material weathering and the passage of time. The handmade paper was exposed to the Andalusian sun alongside rusted metal elements saturated in distilled white vinegar, allowing oxidation to imprint itself directly onto the surface. These natural processes establish a foundation of erosion and memory.
Layered papers and hand-cut templates introduce relief through white spackle, forming subtle topographies that echo shoreline textures. Acrylic washes of blue and titanium white build the sea’s depth, while charcoal drawn directly over the monoprint surface suggests a solitary vessel suspended between presence and disappearance.
The work navigates tension between permanence and dissolution — between the constructed mark and the uncontrollable imprint of environment.
