V.W. Resurrected was cast in a backyard foundry in Anderson, South Carolina, by the lost Styrofoam technique. It is one of a number of helmet-like pieces that interested me at that time. I suppose that it is about energy and latent potential force. It is intended to be aggressive, restless and not beautiful in the common meaning of the word. The title V.W. Resurrected belongs to Jack Morris, Director of the Greenville County Museum of Art. I had left the piece untitled and he asked if he could title it after he discovered that I was melting down old VW aluminum engine blocks for the castings.
