Progression of 'Winter Garden.'
I've had a lot of interest in how 'Winter Garden' was inspired. There were 'many' layers, similar to my emotions as I slowly slipped into a recent depression. The images tell the story.
I am very happy with the final painting as it is an honest interpretation of this journey. You will see the transition as you follow the images. Although some of the earlier layers were brighter and more cheerful, the latter less vibrant, yet hopeful.
Optimism in depression, if anyone can relate. Where does that come from? History. Regardless of how bad the feelings are, history has proven to me, they will not last. Sometimes, holding on is the best I can do. Yet even under 'the cloud,' there is still beauty, and hope. Spring is coming. In the interim, where can you find flowers blooming in Winter? In my head.
