Flowers. For twenty years now, flowers have been a central theme in my art, whether my art be sculpture, fine art photography or painting. Flowers and all things floral signify hope, life, freedom, optimism, choice and all things good in this world.
Paintings are a way of seeing into the heart, mind and soul of an artist. There is no hiding when painting (or rather, there should not be) if it's a good painting, and I always do my best to be brutally honest in my work! 'A Mid-Covid Night's Dream,' No. 25 of the 'Revival' Series is one of those works.
The flowers, by their very existence, exude hope for better days, and the blemishes of lighter green and blue skies surrounded by foreboding swirls and ever-darkening purplish skies tell a darker story of pain and upheaval and uncertainty - a COVID Winter!
Yet the flowers are bright, bold, colorful and flexible. They WILL survive as they are fluid and fun. The title spells the future - it's as if this is all a dream, a very bad dream. We will survive.
Even though it may be an intense, ominous painting at first glance, it is one of my favorites. I have many 'nice' paintings, but there aren't many 'classic' emotional story paintings - this is one of them. They are far and few. One of a Kind!
