'FACES'
How did the title come about?
In the beginning I saw a playful grouping of flowers. The more I painted, over hundreds of hours, the flowers seemed to disappear; to be replaced by a myriad of faces, each with unique personalities. I would be working on one, turn to reload paint onto my palette knife, and see the next 'flower', and see an adjacent flower that created a set of eyes, another personality, which led to the next, to the next, and so on ...
If I stepped back a few feet it was obvious that it was a glorious bouquet of flowers, yet if I walked closer, there was an endless combination of personalities, depending on how you grouped the flowers (eyes). The painting was a large canvas of 'FACES!'
To make things a little more fun (eerie perhaps), I added a little black pupil in each of the hundreds of flowers/eyes so that if you were standing directly in front of the painting, they would be looking at you!
'FACES' is a one of a kind piece, hundreds of hours into this work, very detailed and a must see in person, as photos would never do it justice. Striking!
