MessageCollection: Conflicts of Life
"Conflicts of Life" brings together Robin Antar's earliest abstract sculptures, made largely between 1981 and 1992. Hard, unyielding stone is carved to suggest softness and motion: forms interlock, stack, and compete for individuality, echoing the tensions and pressures of life itself. The title works set that tone in wall-like relief, while "Competition of Form," "Additions," and "configurations" extend it into pattern, adaptation, and the shifting shapes we take in relation to others. The "tower" pieces stack travertine into precarious, upward balance. Together, they trace the foundation of Antar's ongoing study of individuality and resilience, carved directly into a material built to resist them.
