Blog # 14 Cathartic
Cathartic is psychological relief through the open expression of strong emotion; catharsis. What a great word and feeling. I shorten this to the word “LOVE”. Your love for an animal, your love for a beautiful day, your love for another human. All with a strong feeling. An artist is in catharsis with his or her world all the time. The ability to create emotion from my paintings from peoples likes to dislike. The range is wide and deep. I love to watch people’s body language. When in school in the 60’s I sketched many nude models. The body is a form not a sexual object we were taught to observe the human form as a complete mass of curves and shape. I did many sketches of human form. My painting “Embrace” painted in 2006, was from a sketch of reducing the two forms as one holding each other in an embrace. The faces are reduced to lines suggesting eyes and noses. We have all experience an embrace from a parent to a friend or someone special. This is a cathartic experience, some strong, some not so strong. Over but not out
