Alongside Tinker Creek’s natural beauty exist tension and juxtapositions “between the built world and the natural one.” Artist Ashley Wilson Fellers sees these as opportunities to discover what patterns and conversations might unfold through mindful observation.
Deliberately seeking the contrasts between tiny whorled shells and messy knots of flood debris or graffiti under a bridge, she felt called “not to shy away, but to look closer … and to gaze through until something deeper appeared.” Opting for the simplicity of her phone camera over more formal equipment, she recontextualizes the technology as a tool for contemplative practice over distraction.
