'Change is in the Air' is a functional public art piece designed by artist Julia C. Burr. This sculpture serves as a transit shelter for the community of Roanoke. Located in Hurt Park, 'Change is in the Air' welcomes travelers from all walks of life.
This piece is constructed of mild steel, wood, and marbles. Burr says, "I wanted to make a more contemporary structure that would still nestle into its location." The marbles decorate the back panel, catching rays of indirect sunlight. "Equally beautiful is the concept of the marbles signifying individuals standing together producing a powerful source of natural energy."
Burr is a multimedia artist from Texarkana, Texas. Before 'Change is in the Air', Burr designed a transit station for Greensboro, NC. See more of Burr's work at jcburr.com.
