Since reading Pilgrim at Tinker Creek’s infamous scene of a green frog’s demise at the hands of a giant water bug, the artist found herself thinking often about the cruelty of nature, particularly after suffering a multitude of tick bites. She was thus inspired to create “a satirical and humorous piece of art that mocked nature’s dark side.”
“(H)e slowly crumpled and began to sag . . . he was shrinking before my eyes like a deflating football . . . it was a monstrous and terrifying thing. I gaped bewildered, appalled. An oval shadow hung in the water behind the drained frog; then the shadow glided away.” (ch.1, p. 6)
